ലാരി കോളിന്‍സ്, ഡൊമനിക് ലാപ്പിയര്‍ എന്നിവര്‍ ചേര്‍ന്ന് ഇന്ത്യന്‍ സ്വാതന്ത്ര്യസമരചരിത്രത്തിലെ അധികം അറിയപ്പെടാത്ത കഥകള്‍ ഏകദേശം മുപ്പതു കൊല്ലം മുന്‍പ് "ഫ്രീഡം അറ്റ്‌ മിട്നൈറ്റ്" എന്ന പേരില്‍ പ്രസിദ്ധീകരിച്ചിരുന്നു. ഏറെ ചര്‍ച്ച ചെയ്യപ്പെട്ട ആ പുസ്തകത്തിന്റെ മലയാള തര്‍ജമയാണ്‌ " സ്വാതന്ത്ര്യം അര്‍ദ്ധരാത്രിയില്‍ " എന്ന ഈ പുസ്തകം ഇന്ത്യയെ സ്വതന്ത്രമാക്കുക എന്ന ലക്ഷ്യത്തോടെ ബ്രിട്ടിഷ് ഇന്ത്യയുടെ അവസാന വൈസ്രോയി ആയി ലോര്‍ഡ്‌ മൌണ്ട്ബാറ്റണ്‍ നിയമിക്കപ്പെടുന്നത് മുതല്‍ ഗാന്ധിജിയുടെ മരണം വരെയുള്ള സംഭവബഹുലമായ കുറെ മാസങ്ങള്‍ ഇതിനു ഇതിവൃത്തമാകുന്നു.


ഇന്ത്യ ചരിത്രത്തെ കുറിച്ച് ഇത്രയും റിസര്‍ച് നടത്തി തയാറാക്കിയ മറ്റൊരു പുസ്തകവും ഞാന്‍ വായിച്ചിട്ടില്ല. ഇതിന്റെ രചയിതാക്കളെ ഞാന്‍ നമിക്കുന്നു. ഇന്ത്യയിലെ സാമൂഹിക സാമ്പത്തിക രാഷ്ട്രീയ വ്യവസ്ഥിതികളെ വളരെയധികം ആഴത്തില്‍ വിശകലനം
ചെയ്തിരിക്കുന്നതായി തോന്നി. ഗാന്ധിജിയെ കുറിച്ച് കൂടുതല്‍ മനസ്സിലാക്കാനും സാധിച്ചു. ഗാന്ധിജിയെ വധിക്കാന്‍ ഗോട്സെയും കൂട്ടരും നടത്തുന്ന ശ്രമങ്ങള്‍ ഒരു സിനിമയില്‍ എന്നവണ്ണം വിവരിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു ഈ പുസ്തകത്തില്‍. ഓരോ ഇന്ത്യക്കാരനും തീര്‍ച്ചയായും വായിച്ചിരിക്കേണ്ട പുസ്തകം.

Revolution 2020

Just another Chetan Bhagat book. The same old ingradients of love, friendship and drama.The story is a kind of triangular love story mixed with some politics and corruption. Gopal, Raghav and Aarti are the three main characters in this story. The story revolves around the city of Varanasi where the nation comes to throw away its sins. The place is described well in this story. As in his first book some references on the educational system prevailing in our country is well incorporated in this story.

All together just a time pass book. I must add another point, perhaps a thank you note to the publishers. For a book of these many pages, that too from the most read english writer in India, they can very well put a bigger price tag for this book, still they provide it at a fair price of 140 rupees. ഇങ്ങനെയും ഒരു സിനിമക്കാലം

അക്ബര്‍ കക്കട്ടിലിന്റെ ലളിതമായ ആഖ്യാനത്താല്‍ മനോഹരമായ മറ്റൊരു പുസ്തകം. മലയാള സിനിമയുടെ ഇന്നലകളെ സമ്പന്നമാക്കിയ മഹാരഥന്മാരെ കുറിച്ചുള്ള അനുഭവ കുറിപ്പുകളാണ് ഈ പുസ്തകം.

വെള്ളിയാഴ്ച തുടങ്ങുന്ന പുതിയ സിനിമ ഏതെന്നറിയാന്‍ മനസ്സ് പിടയുന്ന വ്യാഴാഴ്ച്ചകളെ കുറിച്ചുള്ള പരാമര്‍ശം തന്നെ നമ്മെ പഴയൊരു ലോകത്തേക്ക് കൊണ്ട് പോകും. മൈക്ക് വച്ച് കെട്ടിയ വണ്ടിക്കു പുറകെ സിനിമാ നോട്ട്സിനായി ഓടിയിരുന്ന ഒരു കുട്ടിക്കാലം എനിക്കുമുണ്ടായിരുന്നല്ലോ. അതില്‍ തുടങ്ങി മലയാള സിനിമയില്‍ അധികം പരാമര്‍ശിക്കപ്പെടാത്ത  എന്നാല്‍ പരാമര്‍ശം അര്‍ഹിക്കുന്ന ഒരുപിടി ആള്‍ക്കാരെ കുറിച്ച് ഈ പുസ്തകം പ്രതിപാതിക്കുന്നു. മദനന്റെ മനോഹരമായ കാരിക്കേച്ചരുകളും ആകര്‍ഷകങ്ങളാണ്.

അധികാരം

വി.കെ.എന്‍ എന്ന് പുകള്‍പെറ്റ വടക്കേ കൂട്ടാലെ നാരായണന്‍കുട്ടി നായര്‍ എഴുതിയ നൂറ്റി എട്ടു പേജുകള്‍ നീളുന്ന ഒരു ചെറിയ നോവല്‍ ആണ് അധികാരം. സാമൂഹിക വ്യവസ്ഥിതികളോടുള്ള പരിഹാസം ആണീ കൃതി.

അധികാരം കയ്യാളുന്നവന്റെ ധാര്ഷ്ട്യത്തോടുള്ള പ്രതിഷേധം വളരെ കഠിനമായ ഭാഷയില്‍ വര്‍ണ്ണിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു. കഠിനമായ എന്ന് പറയാനുള്ള കാരണം എന്നെ പോലുള്ള വളരെ സാധാരണക്കാരനായ വായനക്കാരന്  മനസ്സിലാക്കാവുന്നതിലും അപ്പുറത്താണ് ഇതിലെ ഭാഷ.

ആയിരത്തി തൊള്ളായിരത്തി തൊണ്ണൂറ്റിഒന്നിലാണ് ഈ പുസ്തകം ആദ്യമായി ഇറങ്ങുന്നത്. ആ സമയത്ത് നിലനിന്നിരുന്ന രാഷ്ട്രീയ വ്യവസ്ഥിതികളേയും വ്യക്തികളെയും പരോക്ഷമായി ഇതില്‍ പ്രതിപാതിക്കുന്നുണ്ട്. അത് കൊണ്ട് തന്നെ ഈ വക സംഭവങ്ങളെ കുറിച്ച് വല്ല്യ അറിവില്ലാത്തതും ഈ പുസ്തകം ശരിയായി മനസ്സിലാക്കുന്നതില്‍ നിന്നും എന്നെ അകറ്റി എന്ന് വേണേല്‍ പറയാം.

Given a chance I won't dare to choose VKN anymore for the simple reason that I can't afford this level of complexity.

Two States

Fourth book from Chetan Bhagat with the same recipe. He himself reveal that the story is a bit auto biographical. I Tells the story of love between a girl and boy from two different state and culture.

A Punjabi boy Krish falls in love with a Tamilian girl Ananya. They both wishes to get married with the consent of their parents. Krish's efforts to adjust to the likes of Ananya's parents is described well. Yet the musical concert which brings in big stars in the industry to sing with Ananya's mother was a bit hard to digest. May be that is why such stories are called fiction. Fiction has to be strange.

Though it doesn't reach up to the first book Two states is better the two of its immediate predecessors.

The 3 mistakes of my life

The third novel from Chetan Bhagat. It again fails to create the magic of the first one yet it delevers a good value for money.

Like his previous ventures this book too circles around love and friendship. It neatly plots the story of three friends starting a business and the difficulties on their way to success. The epic test match between India and Australia is also included as a part of the story. The recipe is the just same, a table spoon of humour, a table spoon of love with another table spoon of friendship and a pinch sex and action.

The verdict is just the same. The book is just enough to spend your free time with a little smile on your face.

One night @ the call center

One night @ the call center, the second book of  "the biggest selling English language novelist in India's history" Chatan Bhagat.

This again is a story that mixes love, drama and friendship. Yet it fails to attain the charm generated by his first novel. Like I said early, may the author had used every good stuff he had for the first story. Yet this book satisfies its basic objective of entertaing its readers.

The story unfolds around the love affair of two call center executives which finally concludes on an unbelievable climax. Even the author had mentioned that his readers may not believe the climax of the story. Even you put aside the climax, this book stands much behind his debut work.
